Why Are My TikTok Shop Videos Not Getting Views?
TikTok doesn’t say product links lower your views. What it does document are commercial-content rules that can cost a Shop video its For You feed reach: missing disclosure, reused footage and off-platform selling on LIVE.

Do TikTok Shop videos get fewer views?
Many sellers and affiliate creators report the same thing: the moment a video carries a product link, the views fall off. It’s an easy conclusion to reach, because shoppable videos are often the ones you most need to perform. But TikTok has not published any rule that a product link, by itself, reduces a video’s reach. We couldn’t find one in the Community Guidelines, the Creator Academy or TikTok’s help pages.
What TikTok does document is a set of rules that apply to commercial content and to every video’s eligibility for the For You feed (FYF), the main recommendation feed where most new viewers come from. Shop videos run into these rules more often than ordinary posts, which is the most likely reason TikTok Shop videos are not getting views. This post separates what TikTok has written down from what is only reported or guessed.
What does TikTok say about commercial content and reach?
Start with the baseline. TikTok’s Community Guidelines say the For You feed is not a guarantee for any video:
However, not all content is guaranteed to be recommended. When we identify content that falls under the “FYF Ineligible” standards in our Community Guidelines, it won't be recommended in the FYF.TikTok Community Guidelines — Overview
TikTok also says a weak video is not proof of a penalty. Its For You feed Eligibility Standards state:
If a video isn’t getting many views, it also doesn’t necessarily mean it broke a rule.TikTok Community Guidelines — For You feed Eligibility Standards
On the commercial side, TikTok’s help page for TikTok Shop product links says “Videos with product links will be submitted for an additional review process.” Once the product is approved, the link appears above your username. TikTok doesn’t say how long that review takes, or whether it changes how the video is distributed in the meantime. Treat any claim about a “review delay penalty” as unverified.
TikTok Shop itself is only available in certain markets. TikTok’s help page lists Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam.
Which documented rules can cost a Shop video its reach?
These are the causes TikTok has actually written down. Each one can apply to a Shop video.
1. Commercial content without disclosure
TikTok’s Community Guidelines require the content disclosure setting when you promote your own business, product or service, and for branded content where you receive an incentive. That covers sellers promoting their own products and, under TikTok’s Branded Content Policy, affiliates earning a commission. The guidelines say:
If we find commercial content that hasn’t been properly disclosed, we may reduce its visibility or apply the content disclosure setting.TikTok Community Guidelines — Regulated Goods, Services, and Commercial Activities
TikTok’s Business Help Center adds that undisclosed commercial content “may not be eligible for distribution in the For You feed.” The disclosure itself is not the problem. TikTok says turning it on “will not affect the way TikTok recommends content to users.” More detail in does the Paid partnership label hurt your reach?
2. Unoriginal or reused product footage
Shop videos often reuse the same supplier clip, or a clip another creator already posted. TikTok’s Integrity and Authenticity guidelines say: “Content is also ineligible for the FYF if it includes unoriginal or reused material without anything new.” Its Creator Academy describes this as content that “feels recycled, spammy, or just not quite right for TikTok.” See how reposted content and watermarks affect reach.
3. Directing buyers off TikTok during LIVE
In the TikTok LIVE section of its Accounts and Features guidelines, TikTok says it reduces “visibility of content directing users to purchase products off-platform in markets where TikTok Shop is available.” This sentence sits under LIVE commercial content. TikTok doesn’t state the same rule for regular videos, so don’t assume it applies there.
4. Regulated or restricted products
TikTok doesn’t allow trading or marketing of regulated, prohibited or high-risk goods. It says verified business accounts and verified TikTok Shop sellers may get limited exceptions if they meet its requirements. If your product sits in a sensitive category, expect stricter handling.
5. Fake engagement and manipulation
TikTok prohibits services that “artificially boost engagement or trick the recommendation system,” including fake reviews. It says it may restrict an account’s ability to appear in top search results or in the FYF. Bought views on a Shop video can make reach worse, not better.
6. A pattern of ineligible content
TikTok says that when accounts that don’t break the rules still post a lot of FYF-ineligible content, it “may make the account and its content ineligible for the FYF and harder to find.” This is the closest documented thing to an account-wide “shadowban.” TikTok doesn’t publish how many videos trigger it.
What else might explain low views on Shop videos?
TikTok doesn’t publish data on how shoppable videos perform compared with other videos. The points below are our own interpretation, not TikTok policy.
- Viewer response. TikTok says its recommendation system looks at things like what viewers like, share, comment on and search for. A video that feels like an ad may simply hold attention less well. That’s a content issue, not a penalty.
- Repetition. Posting many near-identical product videos may compete with each other for the same viewers. TikTok publishes no figure for this.
- Normal variance. One low video is not a trend. Compare against your own baseline across several posts. Why your TikTok views dropped covers the general causes.
TikTok Shop also has its own seller and creator policies in Seller Center and TikTok Shop Academy. TikTok’s guidelines say branded content must follow them “where relevant.” They change often and some sit behind a login, so check the current versions yourself rather than relying on third-party summaries.
Which TikTok Shop reach myths are wrong?
| Myth | What TikTok’s documentation says |
|---|---|
| “Adding a product link kills your views.” | TikTok publishes no such rule. Product-linked videos go through an additional review, but TikTok doesn’t say this lowers reach. |
| “Turning on disclosure buries Shop videos.” | TikTok says the disclosure setting will not affect how it recommends content. Undisclosed commercial content is what may lose FYF eligibility. |
| “Low views mean my shop is shadowbanned.” | TikTok says few views don’t necessarily mean a rule was broken. Ineligibility shows up in analytics. |
| “Reposting the supplier’s video is fine.” | Unoriginal or reused material without anything new is ineligible for the FYF. |
| “Pushing buyers to my own website is safer.” | On LIVE, TikTok reduces visibility of content directing users to buy off-platform where TikTok Shop is available. |
What should you check first?
- Open the video’s analytics. TikTok’s Creator Academy says that if a video isn’t eligible for the For You feed, a warning bar appears at the top of the Performance tab.
- Check your Inbox and Account Status for any moderation notice. If you find one, read what “not eligible for recommendation” means for Shop videos.
- Confirm the disclosure setting is on for any video promoting your own products or earning a commission.
- Replace reused footage with your own demos, voice and angle.
- Compare against your baseline. Shadowban Checker is an independent, read-only TikTok reach-analytics tool for creators. It connects to your own account through TikTok’s official login and API and estimates whether your reach is being limited — an honest estimate, not an official TikTok status. Run a free visibility check (2 checks a day) or use the reach drop checker. Writing captions for product videos? Try the caption checker.

Questions, answered.
Why are my TikTok Shop videos not getting views?
Usually because of documented eligibility rules, not the product link. TikTok says undisclosed commercial content may lose For You feed eligibility, and unoriginal or reused footage is ineligible for the For You feed. Normal variance and weak viewer response are other likely causes. Check the video’s analytics for an ineligibility warning first.
Does adding a product link reduce views on TikTok?
TikTok hasn’t published any rule saying it does. Its help page says videos with product links go through an additional review, after which the link appears above your username. TikTok doesn’t say whether that review affects distribution, so any claim that product links lower reach is unverified.
Do I need to disclose TikTok Shop videos?
Yes, in most cases. TikTok’s Community Guidelines require the content disclosure setting when you promote your own business or product, and for branded content where you get an incentive. TikTok’s Branded Content Policy counts affiliate commissions as branded content. TikTok says undisclosed commercial content may have its visibility reduced.
Can I reuse a supplier’s product video on TikTok Shop?
It’s risky for reach. TikTok’s Community Guidelines say content is ineligible for the For You feed if it includes unoriginal or reused material without anything new. Adding your own demo, voice or angle gives the video something new. Rights to the footage are a separate question.
How do I know if a TikTok Shop video was restricted?
Check the video’s analytics. TikTok’s Creator Academy says a warning bar appears at the top of the Performance tab if a video isn’t eligible for the For You feed. Moderation notices also appear in your Inbox under Account Updates, with your full record in Account Status.
